Jonty Sherwill

Jonty races his grandfather’s 1926 dayboat ‘Cockleshell’ with partner Vicki. It’s the first boat he sailed aboard (age 6 weeks) and started helming her in 1965. Since then he’s raced in OKs, Finns, offshore and 6-Metre campaigns, team racing v. USA, and helped create the Prima 38 that won Cork Week in ’98. Commodore at HRSC 1993-95, from 2000 he spent 10 years helping to build up the Winter Series, keeping the Donkey Derby field available for parking, and designed the club refurbishment. Always happy to listen and lend advice, he believes that everyone is competitive in their own way (well ask yourself!) and that Wednesday evening yacht racing is as good an intro as any to learning our great sport.
