Hamble Folkboat Fleet - Our History

The Hamble Folkboat fleet based out of HRSC, was the original Folkboat fleet in Great Britain, formally established in 1959, with carvel British Built Folkboats like Jim Saunders Cyra, the Husbands five Folkboats including Tom Husbands Tomic and Phil Husbands Blue Mist, Robin Walters Piassano and Ted Donald's Celia Mary.

The Hamble fleet achieved great success in Solent Regattas and were a key part of positioning Folkboats as the leading class winner in the Round the Island Race.

During the 1980's Nordic One design Folkboats were introduced, mainly concentrated in the Western Solent building to today with a large fleet of over 50 based in Lymington and Yarmouth .

Hamble Folkboat Fleet Our Future

Over the last two seasons we have re-established the Hamble Folkboat Fleet offering racing for both Nordic One designs and Classics. Racing is based out of Hamble River Sailing Club and is closely aligned to the Hamble XOD fleet , where Folkboats being closely rated, race over the same courseoff a separate start. This is proving to be a popular formula which has seen our numbers grow, with a fleet of 10 Folkboats entered our final regatta of last season at the Hamble Classics.

This season the Folkboat fleet will target racing all the HRSC Saturday series as well as the HRSC Central Solent Regatta and the RAFYC Battle of Britain Regatta - and overall we aim to re-build a competitive fleet racing at HRSC.
