Phenomenal turnout for Hamble River Sailing Club Try Sailing Event

Last Saturday, we welcomed 75 children and their families to the HRSC club to try sailing. The children were offered a 20 min assisted sail with either one of our older cadets or an adult on our larger dinghies (Fevas, Visions and Fusions), followed by a 20 min sail off the beach in our club Oppies. The safety boats were on hand and parents were able to go out on see their children on the water or watch from the beach. Our Youth Sailing Leader, Alice, did an amazing job of organising the smooth running of the beach with military precision over the three sessions.
After sailing the families were greeted in the clubhouse where they could find out additional information from the club and sailing school. In addition, hot and cold beverages and hot food along with a selection of handmade cakes, biscuits, cookies and flapjacks was on offer.
It was a fantastic day to see so many happy enthusiastic faces. There was a positive vibe around the beach and in the club house with many families staying for food and drinks, taking the opportunity to talk to current HRSC members. The HRSC Flag Officers and the Head Sailing School Instructor were also onsite to support the event.
The Try Sailing was run alongside the normal youth cadet session with more than 20 children in attendance. In order to make this day a success, we had over 25 parents and 7 cadets (both young and old) who volunteered, alongside 3 paid instructors - not including all important event planning, marketing, printing, envelope stuffing and baking in the run up to Saturday.
This event has triggered interest in the club membership and the sailing school courses for both the children and their parents. The future is looking bright for HRSC Youth Sailing with the strong local interest and the high level of participation and volunteering from our Youth Sailors and their families.
