Hamble Valley Regatta

Hamble Valley Regatta Sunday 29th August 2026

The theme this year is medieval, celebrating Hamble's rich history during the medieval period, which lasted from around 500 to 1500 CE. During this time, the village church was built, the priory was established and later destroyed, and many ships were constructed along the river. Hamble also played an important role in England's maritime history, sending many local sailors to serve in battle aboard warships.

Although the village faced attacks from Vikings and later from the French, daily life for the villagers continued. They grew crops, raised animals, and relied on the land and river for food and trade. Fishing, trading, visiting markets, and using the ferry were all part of everyday life. Shipbuilding and sailing remained central to the village, with local boats working nearby waters and others travelling to distant lands.
