The Hamble River Sailing Club Coached Feva Open

Published 01:00 on 30 Jun 2022

The Hamble River Sailing Club Coached Feva Open, took place on 11th June.

The morning started with Chay Taylor (RS Feva Coach) holding a briefing for all the sailors and their parents before heading out on the water. 16 boats took part, with a number of sailors having sailed Feva's but never raced. Racing was held out at Cat Head, with some tricky conditions of winds reaching gusts of 21 knots and multiple capsizes from all sailors involved. This however didn't stop some of the sailors attempting to put the Spinnaker's up.

There was some tough competition across the fleet with improved starts from all sailors in the second race and boat finishing a lot closer together.

Overall Results: (top three)

1st Oliver Stratton-Brown and William Stratton-Brown (Frensham Pond SC)

2nd Archie Barber and Jamie Taylor (Royal Southern YC)

3rd Zoe Lomas-Clark and Maisie Butler-Smith (Frensham Pond SC)

Special mention goes to Sam Wealthy from Warsash SC who was the youngest sailor out racing with his dad Dan Wealthy.

After sailing, everyone returned to the Hamble clubhouse for pizza and drinks, and a debrief from the coach, mainly focusing on strategies to keep the boat flat and prevent capsizing. This was followed by a presentation of medals and prizes. Thanks to the race officers, volunteers and parents who contributed to the running of this successful event.
