Foxer Intergalactics 2021

DAY ONE REPORT

Although the rain drizzled down on a very still Hamble River, 11 sailors mustered at the slipway for the morning briefing.Coffees, and a beer later -whilst watching the antics of the cadets enjoying the water on HRSC paddleboards - the Foxer sailors went afloat an hour late for this year's Intergalactics.

Other sailing events had cancelled on the River, which increased the turnout to thirteen sailors taking part in six races.Under the watchful eye of John Duff, the Foxer Captain and Richard Hardy who assists on the rib six races were efficiently run.

Watching from the club house it was possible to see complete changes in the races, with different racers moving around the fleet. Our one lady helm, Suzy Hamel enjoyed her day out on the water, happy to always have sailors behind her.Shaun Barber led the first two races.

The leader at the end of Day One was Ian Southworth, Intergalactic champion of 2020 however with the sailing in larger boats due to sail on Sunday two sailors including Ian will be sailing in another event tomorrow. This means that tomorrow is incredibly close for four or five sailors able to move to the podium position, with one discard after nine races.

Day One Results

Three additional racers joined the Intergalactics on Day Two including one of the HRSC cadets, Freddie Callaghan.

Freddie came 8th on day two equal points with Andy Bird, but beat him on count back.On day two Hedley Bewes was second on 18 points, Leighton King second on 15 points.Coming out for the second day in the Intergalactics over 60, won last year by Rob McGregor was David Criswick enjoying both the sailing and the camaraderie of the Foxer fleet.

At the end of the day with only one discard, and no double point race this year the results were close Nick O'Donnell coming true on his prediction that he would get inside the top 10, just two points ahead of our lady sailor Suzy Hamel.

Keeping ahead of Darren Baker & Paul Lovejoy Shaun Barber took the title of Intergalactic champion 2021 and said thank you to all for a great two days racing and 12 races.

As ever huge thanks to Hamble River Sailing Club, John Duff, Richard Hardy, Serena Alexander (Vice Commodore of HRSC) for bar, and Georgie Baker for the most scrumptious chocolate cake.
