Barts Bash - Sunday 21st September

Published 10:41 on 29 Aug 2014

The Hamble River Sailing Club Bart’s Bash plan

On Sunday 21st September the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation's Bart's Bash will take place. On that day HRSC is encouraging every one of our 450 members to get afloat and race to help the Bart’s Bash team achieve a Guinness world record for ‘the largest sailing race in the world ever.'
Our goal – to get as many HRSC members as possible completing the official world record attempt Bart’s Bash course!

Race format – there will be a number of options. Racing will kick off from 1030. We plan to run a briefing the dinghies in the club at 1000.

Option 1 - for slow(er) dinghies (Pico's, Foxers, Optimists, Laser 4.7s, Radials, Mirrors, Toppers etc.). Racing in the river in the team racing/Foxer pool on the Warsash side. There will be a number of starts to cope with the different classes. There will be plenty of safety cover so please come and join in (Cadets, MOB and WOW that means you!). We may run heats in the Pico’s to cater for the expected entry levels.

Option 2 - for all yachts. Racing outside the river down near Solent Breezes caravan site. Wednesday evening format. XODs will be welcome on this course too (XOD owners if you’re doing the Southern Regatta instead please still register as a HRSC Bart’s Bash competitor - your results will be extracted for the Bart’s Bash race).

Option 3. We’re expecting that faster dinghies (basically trapeze boats) will be able to race on the outside dinghy course being run by Warsash SC. Details to follow.

We also hope to have activities for the very junior people – the Peanuts – taking place on the water just off the dinghy park and foreshore.

Wherever you plan to race you MUST register before the event on the Bart’s Bash website as a HRSC competitor. http://www.bartsbash.co.uk/club/hamble-river-sailing-club (Register here box is top left). You need to put down the dinghy type that you’re sailing.

To qualify for Bart’s Bash everyone will need to race for at least 1km (measured by GPS), and at least 15 minutes. Each course will have a single start and finish point. We will be videoing each course and have two independent witnesses present at the club to verify our competitors for the Guiness World Record. We will also be welcoming a number of HRSC friends to race including the Sigma 38 class.

Post racing all competitors (and supporters) are welcome to the club where there will be a food and drink – the bar will be open and a hog roast, and a party atmosphere! We will also be raising money in various ways for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. I believe the Foxer fleet have some great plans for off the water entertainment and money raising! If you can’t sail please turn up and join in the fun. This is a day for ALL club members.

So if you’re planning on sailing please REGISTER NOW!

If you’re not sailing and can help run events  - we need volunteers on and off the water - please email Gemma in the HRSC Office (admin@hambleriversc.org.uk). She will liaise with HRSC Event Maker Barney Smith.

See you there!
