HAMBLE RIVER SAILING CLUB CRUISE-IN-COMPANY 2025: GENTLE BREEZES, SEQUINS & GOOD TIMES AHOY!
By Nina Lutley, still humming "Dancing Queen"

The latest Cruise-In-Company weekend was a sparkling success, with sunshine, sequins, and sailing camaraderie from Gosport to Hayling Island to Cowes. If you weren't aboard, here's what you missed and why you'll want to be first on the list next time.

Friday: A Gentle Sail & a Chinese Feast
Four boats slipped lines from the Solent and enjoyed a serene sail to Gosport Premier Marina, with a breeze just strong enough to keep the sails filled though some lively debate arose about whether 3 knots warranted a bit of engine encouragement (Vice Commodore, we're looking at you). That evening, crews gathered aboard Pufferfish for a pre Cruise-In-Company Chinese takeaway. It was the perfect warm-up: new faces mingled with seasoned cruisers, glasses clinked, and stories flowed as freely as the soy sauce.

Saturday: Hayling Island & ABBA Revival
Saturday dawned glassy and still, but seven boats made their way to Sparks Marina in Hayling Island, arriving in time for beach fun. The pontoon party kicked off aboard Artemis, with drinks, nibbles and laughter. Then it was off to Hayling Island Sailing Club for a dinner followed by their legendary ABBA Revival Night.

The music started and the dance floor lit up. Sequins sparkled, hips swayed, and our Rear Commodore Sailing was in his element. Unforgettable memories were made.

Sunday: Cowes, Chaos & Champagne
Sunday brought another glorious sail, this time across to Cowes. But Shepards Marina had a surprise in store: tight mooring spaces and a cheeky side-on wind turned mooring up into a game of boat Tetris. Seven boats squeezed in, and Implacable hosted the final soirée with nibbles, bubbles, finger puppets and even waiter service courtesy of one of our younger members.

Dinner followed at The Duke, where a bouncy castle tempted many though the Rear Commodore Sailing was tragically thwarted by the 13-and-under age limit. Still, the laughter echoed and the sunshine held strong throughout the weekend.

Why Not Join Next Time?
The Cruise-In-Company is about more than sailing it's about connection, adventure, and the kind of memories that linger longer than your hangover. Whether you're a seasoned cruiser or just curious, come and join us. You'll find friendship, fun, and maybe even your inner Dancing Queen.
