Junior Warming Pan 2013
Published 18:57 on 14 Apr 2013
In very testing conditions – heavy driving rain and between 20 and 25 knots of wind – we held the Junior Warming Pan on Saturday 13th April.
It was colder and wetter than the Warming Pan held in March, so well done to all our cadet sailors – you were great!
Chris Hamel, Cadet Race Officer, did well to run two races.
Chris was supported by Jan and Elaine on Retriever. Rib drivers and crew did well and had plenty of practice with capsized boats.
The beach crew were great and thanks to those that helped in the club – it could not have happened without you all.
The racing was very competitive with Callum Weston winning both races to take the Pico Trophy. It was lovely to see Kieran and Natalie from Hamble Sports College sailing so well, with Natalie taking two 2nd places and Kieran two 3rd’s.
Both of these have now become Assistant Instructors.
The Oppie Trophy was won by Harry Cowell with two first places. Glad to see Harry back out with the Cadets and we hope to see more of him this year. Cameron Yates did well to take 2nd place in the Oppie Class with a 3rd in the 1st Race and a 2nd in the 2nd race. Robert McFarlane (last years winner) had a 2nd in the first race and a 3rd in the second race to give him third overall.
A special prize was presented to Natalie for the only cadet not to capsize!
