Cadets OB Series - The Hillhead return

Published 20:58 on 21 Jul 2013

On a gorgeous summer’s day we all took to the water out in the Solent. Chris Hamel was the very able Race Officer for the day; and we started with a reasonably long course with two laps to settle everyone into the changeable offshore wind caused by the various buildings.

Hillhead took the singles and Hamble the doubles a pattern to be repeated in all three races, there was a wide margin between the more able cadets and the younger ones, so it was decided that the second race would only be one lap of the course. Due to the strong tide and variable wind the third race was a shortened course.

Well deserved praise must go to the double handed team of Robert and Andrew McFarlene who came first in all three races, this contributed to making Hamble the winning team of the day and again carrying off the trophy for another year.

Other notable results were in the Single handed Aaron Vitner 2nd, Kieran James 3rd, Tom Johnson 4th and in the Double handed Elliot Exton and Oliver Ryan 3rd, Alex Hamel and Eleanor Yonge 5th a fantastic result for our youngest team.

The results of today were Hamble 103, Hillhead 113 giving a combined score from the two days of Hamble 232 and Hillhead 309.

This made Hamble Cadets the clear winner of the Onboard Series 2013.

Finally a heartfelt thanks to all the parents who assisted in the running of this event, be it on the water or just ferrying their children back and forth, a special thanks also needs to go to Mike Johnson and Sam Jones for towing the boats to Hill Head on Friday night and for getting covered in mud doing so!
