Event report: Ultramarathons: Adventures of a fully trained idiot

Published 13:11 on 18 Feb 2022

What a diverse range of topics have been presented this winter on Thursday evenings at HRSC! A daring escape from a WW2 prisoner of war camp; Get to know your sailing club; Sailing to Svalbard; the Falklands conflict and this week we heard from David Harvey (son of Tricia, whom you often see running the Club bar). David told us about his unusual pastime of running ultramarathons, which he classifies as any running event over 50 miles long. He told us about why he took it up, what training he does, which events he has done and the one time that he was pulled from a race because the organisers were worried about his physical state. It's not surprising that he looked a bit rough after 100 miles!

We plan to hold Thursday evening events until the end of March watch out for information on the HRSC website. The bar will be open from 6.30 pm, talks start at 7.00pm and are followed by a tasty club supper in congenial company for £10.
