Hamble River Sailing Club hosted the first night of the Hamble River Combined Clubs Cruiser and XOD regatta last night in warm and light breezes . This regatta is an annual event open to all XODs and Cruisers incorporating the Hamble River Sailing Club Wednesday night series and Warsash Sailing Club. HRSC Commodore Trevor Pountain was delighted last week, after the first race of the Wednesday night B series, to announce sponsorship of the Wednesday night series by Solent Spars. Richard Thoroughgood, marketing manager of Solent Spars, is a regular participant in both the Hamble River Wednesday night race series and Warsash Thursday night pursuit series on Robbie & Lis Robinsons’ “Hot Rats” on Wednesday nights and Aindriu McCormack’s “2XS” at Warsash on Thursday nights. “We are delighted to support such a popular series, particularly in view of the wide range and number of competitors and the high standard of the racing – and of course for me it’s great combining business with pleasure so effectively!” Richard said.

Peter & Ann Smith in “Needlework” appeared to be sailing in their own private wind and led the way into the windward mark well in advance of any other boat. Those half way up the course, tacking onto starboard back up to the mark and the North shore were pleased, not only to note the lifts available in the puffs of wind, but Rod Denning et al on "Light\
