Race Report

Every week we the race management team are set various challenges; this week our minds were very much focused on how long the sea breeze would stay in. We momentarily thought of sending the XOD's and Class 3 to 71 Mark (the sun must have been getting to us) but considered this to be a risk not worth taking. Instead they would be sent to 4C (P), 4G (P) which could have quite easily been (S) if the 50p had come down heads and not tails, then to 4C and finish at 72.

We were trying to offer a variety of sailing angles so Class 1 & 2 had a similar course only longer, 4J, 4S, 4J and finish at 72.

What was noticeable and not seen for some time was the aggression of a lot of our sailors. With a reaching start everybody seemed to want to start at the CB end of the line which caused a few anxious moments for us at anchor. I have never heard UP, UP, UP used so much on a Wednesday evening, or seen the fright in the eyes of some of the competitors

Some say that if you're not over the line at the start for at least one in five starts you're not trying, well X-ray was displayed on one occasion

Did we have any other interesting moments, well yes we did. Our horn box had a funny turn and would either work or not and then went off and played a tune We would like to remind competitors however that Rule 26 states 'Times should be taken from the visual signals; the absence of a sound signal shall be disregarded', that's our only defence.

In the end the wind did just about stay in but that's not to say we weren't holding our breath especially for Jiminy Cricket who managed to get over the line just before the sun and the wind went home for the evening.
